Cogword Privacy Policy

Effective October 7, 2026

Cogword is made by DevXcellence LLC (“we”). This policy explains what the Cogword app and this website collect and why.

The short version

  • You don't create an account, and we never ask for your name, email, contacts, photos or location.
  • Your game progress is stored on your device.
  • We collect anonymous usage statistics so we can improve the game. You can turn this off.
  • If you are not a Cogword Club member, the app shows an ad only when you choose to watch one for an extra hint or a reveal. Our ad partner, Google, collects some device data to do that.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple.

Information the app collects

Gameplay data on your device. Your solved locks, streak, charms and settings are saved on your device. We don't have access to them.

Anonymous usage statistics. We use TelemetryDeck to count things like how many players finish the tutorial, how many moves a lock takes, and how often hints are used. These statistics are anonymous: they are not linked to your name, your Apple ID or an advertising identifier, and we can't use them to identify you. You can turn this off at any time with “Share anonymous usage data” in the app's settings.

Advertising. Players who are not Club members can choose to watch a short ad in exchange for an extra hint or a reveal. Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To show ads and measure them, Google may collect device information such as your device's advertising identifier (only if you allow tracking when your iPhone asks), IP address (which indicates general location), device type, and how you interact with the ad. Where the law requires it, the app asks for your consent before showing personalized ads. If you decline tracking, you may still see ads, but they won't be personalized using your advertising identifier. Club members are not shown ads. Google's use of this data is described in Google's Privacy Policy.

Purchases. Cogword Club purchases are processed by Apple through your Apple ID. We don't receive your payment details. We receive confirmation of what was purchased and whether a subscription is active, linked to an anonymous identifier, so the app can unlock Club features. We may use RevenueCat to manage this; it processes purchase records on our behalf.

Crash and diagnostic data. If you have agreed to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal information. We don't collect contacts, photos, precise location, or health data, and the app has no accounts or social features.

Children

Cogword is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

This website

This website doesn't use cookies or analytics. If you email us, we use your email address only to reply.

Your choices

  • Turn off anonymous usage statistics in the app's settings.
  • Allow or decline ad tracking when prompted, and change it later in iPhone Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
  • Manage or cancel a subscription in iPhone Settings › your name › Subscriptions.
  • Deleting the app removes the gameplay data stored on your device.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information. Because we don't hold information that identifies you, we usually can't look up data about a specific person, but contact us and we'll help where we can.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and post the new version here.
